"There was an Old Man on whose nose
Most birds of the air could repose;
But they all flew away at the closing of day,
Which relieved that Old Man and his nose.
Edward Lear (1812 - 1888) is known mostly for his limericks. His limericks appeared in his 1846 work 'A Book of Nonsense.' This went through three editions and helped to popularise the form.
