William Morris Strawberry Thief Mug
Strawberry Thief was designed by William Morris in 1883 as a textile and is one of his most popular repeating designs, based on the thrushes he noticed stealing fruit from his kitchen garden in Oxfordshire.
To print the pattern Morris used the painstaking indigo-discharge method he admired above all forms of printing. Once happy with the outcome, he registered the design with the Patents Office. This pattern was the first design using the technique in which red and yellow were added to the basic blue and white ground. The entire process would have taken days to complete and was therefore expensive, yet proved to be one of his most commercially successful patterns.
The Dye Sublimation Process we use to print them gives a high-quality, glossy, smooth finish so the print will not crack, fade or peel. Microwave and Dishwasher safe.
