Gustav Doré was a prolific engraver, illustrator and sculptor. He published his first drawings when he was 15 years old and averaged six sketches per day for every day that he was alive. His work is considered some of the most important in the entire engraving art world. He created engravings for the books of Balzac, Rabelais, Milton, Dante, Edgar Allen Poe and Lord Byron. Although he rarely completed any works with colour these have been hand coloured using a computer.
